What Is Advil Used To Treat
Advil is used for a variety of common ailments. You can use it for pain relief, to reduce inflammation, and to lower your body temperature if you have a fever.
The speed of onset of pain relief depends on Advil formulation. Its effect typically lasts four to eight hours, but you should follow specific label instructions.
Advil can be used to manage minor aches and pains associated with:
- Backaches and muscle aches
- Minor arthritis pain
Keep in mind that Advil is used for temporary symptomatic relief, meaning it does not cure any illness or medical condition.

Is It Safe Why
Studies have shown that taking acetaminophen and ibuprofen at the same time is safe and even provides greater pain relief.
This is because acetaminophen and ibuprofen work differently in the body, and are eliminated by different organs.
The liver removes acetaminophen, while the kidneys eliminate ibuprofen.
Since there are separate routes of elimination, taking these two medications at the same time would not overtax the same organ, making this a safe combination of pain relief.
The liver and kidneys share the workload, and pain relief is achieved without exceeding the daily dose limit of each medication.

Well, you’re probably taking too much Ibuprofen and you’re not doing it to really provide a lot of benefit for your pain.
So studies that had been done, there have been studies in patients who are postoperative, also patients with dental pain, and they looked at 400 milligrams of Ibuprofen versus 600 milligrams, so just two of the regular strength tablets. They found that that 400 milligrams had the exact same effect on pain as the 600 milligram. And even then, they found that that 400 milligrams 3 times a day was the max effect. You’re talking just every eight hours.

So How Often Can I Actually Take Ibuprofen
I asked Dr. Christie Prestifilippo, MD from New Jersey how often it is acceptable to take ibuprofen. She told me on a short term basis from 7-10 days, it is okay to take the dosage 600 mgregularly 3 times a dayalways with food. If you don’t eat, your stomach could get upset. If you have a sensitive stomach add Pepcid to your ibuprofen dosage. As long as you do not have any other diseases, are not on blood thinners or have ulcers, and are not taking it for longer than 7-10 days, ibuprofen is safe.
Ibuprofen can feel like a life-saver as long as you use it correctly and don’t rely on it for all pain!
